Fern and Whistle Studio formed out of a love for expressing through visuals and a passion for design

I’m Sarah (Squarespace and Shopify website designer) based in Cheltenham in the Cotswolds. Fern and Whistle Studio brings a creative eye and calm approach to your brand and website design from our initial conversations through to the final handover.

My background has been in photography and craftsmanship as a fine jewellery designer-maker. The experiences from these disciplines have shaped how I approach website design and brand styling.

What started as a passion/obsession for creating the perfect online space for my work as a designer-maker soon led to me retraining and building expertise in website design and brand styling. As a creative business owner I’m intimately familiar with the best practices for websites for independent businesses,  and the importance of ensuring that your website connects to your ideal audience,  tells the story of your brand, gets you work, and sells your services and products. 

When it comes to brand imagery and photographs, should you need them refreshed or updated, I work closely with my go-to network of brand and portrait photographers to ensure a cohesive look across your brand whether that’s styled shoots, studio and workplace images, or founder portraits, and team photos. 

Together we bring a creative eye, technical knowledge, and a calm approach to your brand and website design from our initial conversations through to the final handover.

The Process

  • Discovery and Strategy

    PHASE 1

    My approach begins with getting to know you and your business through our discovery process.

    Every business is unique so taking time to learn about you, your goals and what defines success for you is an important, and enjoyable process.

    We begin with a strategic plan to ensure that your brand and website is designed and built to serve your business goals and attract the right clients for you.


  • Design & Develop

    PHASE 2

    Using either Squarespace or Shopify, depending on what will work best for your business, I then design and develop your brand identity (if you need one) and your website.
    One that engages with your audience and meets your business goals. Is optimised for SEO, GEO and accessibility and built to perform across different devices.

  • launch & Support

    PHASE 3

    Once built your site is ready to launch and handover to you. I provide training on how to manage your site and provide 30 days of support to make sure you feel confident managing it moving forward.

    Of course I’m always here if you need book in extra support sessions.

Why Squarespace?


I believe this to be the most straightforward and manageable for you to update after I handover your site, whilst also having the ability to build beautiful sites, being mobile responsive, and optimised for performance and accessibility. Your website won't require a developer every time you need to update text or add an image, but I’m always here to help you if you need it. 

Why Shopify?


If you’re a growing e-commerce business then Shopify is the platform for your website. Shopify was built for e-commerce and offers by far and away the best e-commerce integrations for your business no matter what you need. 
Whilst Squarespace is good for smaller product based businesses with either one of a kind products, digital products, or small collections (think less than 20), I’d recommend using Shopify if you require greater e-commerce functionality.
